Vinegar and Baking Soda are two of the most useful and effective ingredients for making homemade cleaning materials. These are the steps on how to clean grout around tiles using these two powerful cleaning ingredients:
- Mix 3:1 ratio of baking soda and water, respectively. Stir until it makes it a thick paste.
- Wear rubber gloves to avoid possible skin irritation then apply the paste to the grout lines.
- On a different spray bottle, mix equal parts of white vinegar and water.
- Spray the first and then the second solution on the area.
- It will start to bubble up, but no worries! It’s a natural and expected chemical reaction.
- Wait for a few minutes. When the bubbling stops, the cleaning action is done.
- Using a brush, scrub the grout lines. You can use any nylon brush or simply just a toothbrush. Make sure to clean every corners and areas as well.
- Get a bucket of clean plain water and mop the area to remove any residues of the vinegar and baking soda. Change the water often during this process to ensure that you are not spreading the residue around.
Compared to the first method, this one is less natural but still works as effectively. These are the steps on how to clean grout around tiles using oxygenated bleach:
- Make a solution with 2 tablespoons of oxygenated bleach and 2 cups of warm water and mix.
- Before cleaning the whole area, test a small inconspicuous area of the grout first to be able to adjust how much of the oxygen bleach solution you should apply.
- Apply the solution onto the grout and apply enough to completely cover the grout lines.
- Scrub the solution into the grout lines with a nylon brush. Pay closer attention to the corners and floor’s edges where the dirt and grime mostly stays.
- Rinse the whole area with clean water and dry it with a clean towel or mop.
